"John Anstruther, the younger, of Anstruther and of Blie House, co. Fife, s. and h. ap. of Sir William Anstruther, of the same, sometime (1707) a Lord of Justiciary (d. 24 Jan. 1711), by Helen, da. of John (Hamilton), 4th Earl of Haddington [S.], was b. 1678, and was v.p. cr. a Baronet [S.], by royal warrant dat. at Kensington, 6 Jan. 1700, but no patent is recorded in the Great Seal Register. He was M.P. [S.] for Anstruther Easter Burghs, 1702-07, and M.P. [G.B.] for same, 1708-10, 1710 till unseated in 1711, and 1713-16, as also for Fifeshire, 1715-41. He suc. his father in the family estates, 24 Jan. 1711 ; was Master of the Works [S.], 16 July 1717. He m. 24 Jan. 1716/7, at Edinburgh, Margaret, 1st da. (whose issue became heir) of James (Carmichael), 2d Earl of Hyndford [S.], by Elizabeth, da. of John (Maitland), 5th Earl or Lauderdale [S.]. She d. 6 Nov. 1721, and was bur. at Elie Church. He d. at Elie House, 21 Sep. 1753, aged 75, and was bur. with her. Will dat. 18 Aug. 1746, pr. 28 Aug. 1754."
