Biographical Summary
"Sir John Anstruther, Baronet [S. 1700], of Anstruther and Elie House, 1st but only surv. s. and h., b. 27 Dec. 1718, at Edinburgh; suc. to the Baronetcy, 21 Sep. 1753; was M.P. for Anstruther Easter Burghs (three Paris.), 1766, till he resigned in 1782 ; and again 1790, till he resigned in 1793. He entailed all his estates, 18 Feb. 1778. He m. 4 Oct. 1750, at Edinburgh, Janet, da. of James Fall, of Dunbar, Merchant, sometime Provost and M.P. for that town, by Jean, da. of Patrick Murray, of Pennyland, in Caithness. He d. 4 July 1799, aged 80. Will pr. July 1799. His widow d. 17 Feb. 1802, aged 85. Will pr. 1802."
