About Sir John Browne, 3rd Baronet

Biographical Summary

"John Browne, of the Neale, son and heir. He was sometime Captain in the Irish Army of James II, and was taken prisoner, 6 May 1689, at the siege of Derry. He succeeded his father in May 1698, but never assumed the Baronetcy. He married firstly (settl. 27 and 28 May 1680), Anne, 1st daughter of Geirge (Hamilton), 2rd Baron Strabane [I], by Elizabeth, daughter of Christopher Fagan. She died s.p. 14 and was buried 17 August 1680, 'in that county'. He married secondly, Juliana, 3rd daughter of Sir Patrick Bellew, 1st Baronet [I 1688] of Barmeath, by Elizabeth, 4th daughter of Sir Richard Barnewall, 2nd Baronet [I 1622]."

John Browne was born before 1664.2 He was the son of George Browne and Alicia Bingham.1 He married, secondly, Juliana Bellew, daughter of Sir Patrick Bellew, 1st Bt. and Elizabeth Barnewall, after 1680.1 He married, firstly, Hon. Anne Hamilton, daughter of George Hamilton, 4th Lord Hamilton and Elizabeth Fagan, circa 27 May 1680.2 He died on 11 April 1711.2 His will was proven (by probate) on 21 November 1712.1
    He gained the rank of Captain in the Irish Army, of King James II.1 He fought in the Siege of Derry on 6 May 1689, where he was taken prisoner.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Baronet Browne, of the Neale, near Ballinrobe, co. Mayo [N.S., 1636] in May 1698, although he did not assume the title.1 His last will was dated 11 September 1700.
