Biographical Summary

"John Browne, of the Neale, formerly of Rahins, co Mayo, brother and heir; Sheriff of co Mayo, 1731; succeeded his brother 8 May 1737, but never assumed the Baronetcy; was M.P. [I] for Castlebar (vice Henry Bingham) from, probably, about 1740 to 1760. He married firstly, 30 June 1722, Margaret, 1st daughter and coheir of Henry Dodwell of Athlone, by his 2nd wife, Catharine, daughter of Arthur Ormsby, of Ballyvenose, co Limerick. She died 23 April 1739, and was buried in Kildare catherdral. He married secondly, Catherine, widow of Denis Daly, of Carrownakelly, daughter of Sir Walter Blake, 6th Baronet [I 1622], of Menlo, by his 2nd wife, Agnes, daughter of John Blake. He died 2 October 1762. His 2nd wife, by whom he had no issue, survived him."
