Sir John Lawson, 1st Bt. was the son of Henry Lawson and Anne Hodgson. He married Catherine Howard, daughter of Sir William Howard and Mary Eure, in 1660. He died on 26 October 1698.
Sir John Lawson, 1st Bt. gained the rank of Captain of Horse. In 1653 Brough hall was sold under Act of Parliament, and he was subject to banishment. He was created 1st Baronet Lawson, of Brough Hall, co. Yorks [England] on 6 July 1665.
Burke's Peerage and Burke's Extinct Baronetage give Sir Henry Lawson, 2nd Baronet, as 2nd son of John, and note that John had a son Roger ("died young") and "other issue".
Was a captain of Horse in service of Charles I. He inherited Brough Hall and St. Anthony by act of Parliament 1653. His estate was sequestered. He went into exile to Ireland where his younger son, John Roger, married and settled. Charles II created John Baronet in 1665 and restored the estate of Brough Hall to him. Will dated 22 October proved 4 November 1698. Died 26 October 1698, buried at Catteryck. He was succeeded by Sir Henry Lawson, his eldest son.
