Sir Peter de Havilland was instrumental in bringing the French telegraph system to Guernsey.
He was appointed Knight on 6 March 1817
Held the office of Bailiff of Guernsey.

Sir Peter de Havilland Knight, born 7th November 1747, died 14th April 1821.
Sworn ADVOCAT in 1770, JURAT in 1785,and BAILIFF of Guernsey in 1810.
He filled those Offices with Honor and Fidelity
A consistent CHRISTIAN and a warm Friend, his heart glowed with all the social virtues that adorn private life.
