Biographical Summary
"Sir Ralpha Abercromby Anstruther, Baronet [S 1694] of Balcaskie, grandson and heir, being 1st son and heir of Brig-General Robert Anstruther, by Charlotte Lucy (married 16 March 1799, at Margate), only daughter and heir of Lieut.-Col. James Hamilton, Coldstream Guards which Robert (born 3rd March 1768) died v.p. 14 June 1809, and was buried at Corunna, having greatly distinguished himself in the Peninsular wars. He was born in Grosvenor Street 1 March, and baptised 13 May 1804 at Carnbee; succeeded to the Baronetcy, 2 August 1818; educated at Trinity College, Cambridge; M.A. 1822; Capt. in the Grenadier Guards; Rector of the Univ. of St Andrews, 1859. He married 2 September 1831, at Lambeth, Mary Jane, 1st daughter of Major-General Sir Henry Torrens, K.C.B., by daughter of Patton, Governor of St Helens. He died 18 October 1863, at Balcaskie, aged 59. His widow, who was born 1 February 1811, married 14 November 1868, at Edinburgh (as his 3rd wife) William Talbot Crosbie, of Ardfert Abbey, co. Kerry, and died 26 August 1886, being buried at Ardfert."
