About Sir Robert Anstruther of Balcaskie, 1st Baronet

Biographical Summary

"Robert Anstruther of Wrae, co. Linlithgow (an estate he acquired by marriage), 3rd son of Sir Philip Anstruther of Anstruther, co Fife (d. 1702), Christina, daughter of Sir James Lumsden of Innergelly (a General in the services of the King of Sweden), was baptised 24 September 1658, at Anstruther-Easter; was a Merchant Burgess, and one of the Receivers of the Customs; M.P. [S] for Anstruther-Easter, 1681-82, for Anstruther-Wester, 1702-07, and [G.B.] for Fifeshire, 1709-10, being created a Baronet [S] 28 November 1694, with rem. to heirs male of the body. He purchased the estate of Balcaskie, in the parish of Carnbee, co. Fife, in 1698. He married firstly, Sophia, daughter and coheir of David Kinnear of Kinnear, in Kilmany, co. Fife, and for a time assumed the name of Kinnear. She, however, died s.p. He married secondly, 12 March 1687, at Edinburgh, Jean, daughter and heir of William Monteith of Wrae, by Margaret, daughter of Dundas. By her he had six sons. He married thirdly, 13 September 1703, at Edinburgh, Marion, daughter of Sir William Preston, 2nd Baronet [S 1637] of Valleyfield, by Anne, daughter of Sir James Lumsden. He died March 1737, aged 78. His widow died April 1743."
