Biographical Summary
"Sir Robert Gordon, Baronet [S 1625] of Gordonstoun, son and heir by 2nd wife, born 1696; succeeded to the Baronetcy, 5 October 1704, served heir general of his father, 12 July 1705, was M.P. for Caithness, 1715-22; was out in the rising of 1715, but soon afterwards conformed to Government. In 1766 he claimed the Earldom of Sutherland [S] as heir male, but without success, against the heir general. On 11 May 1767, he entailed various lands of Morayshire. He married 29 May 1734, Agnes, 1st daughter of Sir William Maxwell, 3rd Baronet [S 1627] of Calderwood, by Christian, daughter of Alexander Stewart of Torrence. He died 8 January 1772. His widow died 11 March 1808, aged 89 at Lossiemouth."
