3 May 1358: Charter by King David II verbatim ratifying and confirming the foregoing, (GD11/1), Charter by Thomas de Moravia to Robert Stewart, his Cousin, of the Barony of Shenbody lying in the County of Clackmannan. Witnesses William Bishop of St Andrews, Patrick, Bishop of Brechin, Chancellor of Scotland, Robert the Stewart of Scotland nephew to the King, William Earl of Douglas, Robert of Erskine and John of Preston Knights - Dated at Edinburgh. 4 March 1367-68: Charter by David II confirming and engrossing a Charter by Robert Stewart lord of Senbothy to Sir Duncan Walays Knight and Lady Elionora de Bruys Countess of Carrik his spouse of the land of Daliel and Moderval in the Sheriffdom of Lanark sold by him to them for the sum of two hundred pounds Sterling: to be held by them and the longer liver of them and the heirs and assignees of the said Sir Duncan of him the said lord in fee and heritage for yearly payment of a silver penny in name of blench farm. Said Charter is Sealed before these witnesses Robert de Erskyn, Andrew Cambel, Thomas de Arskyn, Knights, Forsith the clerk of the constable of the Castle of Strivelyn and Thomas de Walchob etc:- and the Charter of Confirmation is Sealed at Strivelyn before these witnesses William bishop of St Andrews Patrick bishop of Brechin, chancellor, Robert Stewart Earl of Stratherne the King's nephew, William Earl of Douglas and Robert de Erskyn Knights. Medieval Lands: Stewart of Lord

JAMES Stewart of Pearston, son of JOHN Stewart of Bonkyl & his wife Margaret Bonkyl (-killed in battle Halidon Hill 19 Jul 1333). The Liber Pluscardensis names "Jacobus, Johannes et Alanus Stewart, filii nobilis Valteri Stewart et fratres Roberti postea regis" among those killed in battle at Halidon Hill in 1333[1320]. It is not chronologically possible for these three brothers to have been younger half-brothers of the future King Robert II if they were old enough to have fought in 1333.

Robert & his wife had three children:

• a) JOHN Stewart . Lord of Lorn 1407/12 [from his brother]. - see below.
• b) ROBERT Stewart of Durisdeer (-killed in battle Shrewsbury). m JANET, daughter and heiress of EWEN de Brandin Lord of Lorn & his wife Joanna de Izac [granddaughter of King Robert Bruce]. This couple were ancestors of the Stewarts of Rosyth, co Fife, and of Craigie Hall and Newhall, co Linlithgow.
• c) CATHERINE Stewart . m JOHN Beatoun [Bethune] of Balfour, son of ---.

John Stewart (son of James Stewart died 1333) died without issue. He was succeeded by Sir Robert Stewart of Shanbothy (d 1386), whose 2nd son was Robert Stewart, ancestor of the Stewart’s of Rosythe.

Robert Stewart was the son of Sir. James Stewart of Pearson who was killed at the battle of Halidon Hill on 19 July 1333.

Robert received a charter from King David II on 23 March 1362/63, for the lands of Dalzell, and in 1374 he received another charter for the lands of Durrisdeer. He is identified as Robertus Senescallus de Innermeath present at the Parliament of Scone, 4 April 1373 [1]

He died about 1388.[2][3]

He is not to be confused with Robert Stewart, 1st Duke of Albany (b. 1339, d. 03 Sep 1420).

Robert (Sir), of Innermeath (Invermay), Perthshire; sat in Parliament as a feudal Baron; one of the magnates who personally took the oath to observe the succession to the Crown 1373; granted lands of Durrisdeer 1374; died c1388, leaving [Sir John], with a younger son (Robert, ancestor of the Stewarts of Rosyth) and a daughter (Catherine; married John Beatoun of Balfour). Sir Robert Stewart, Lord of Shandbothy, Lord of Innermeath, ancestor of the Stewarts of Rosyth.

His father, Sir James Stewart of Pierston or Pearston, fourth son of Sir John Stewart of Bonkill, was the founder and original ancestor of the Lords of Lorn, Innermeath, and Athol. This Sir James received a charter from King Robert I. (Bruce) of the lands of Pierston and Warrickhill, in Baronia de Cuningham. In the deed he is designated " Jacobus Senescalli Filius Quondam Domini Johannis Senescalli, Militis." He was slain at Halidon Hill, 1333. He left issue three sons.

[Robert Stewart] died between the years 1384 and 1388, leaving issue two sons and one daughter:

• Sir John Stewart of Lorn and Baron of Innermeath.
• Sir Robert Stewart, Lord of Durrisdeer, and ancestor of the Stewarts of Rosyth.
• Catherine or Elizabeth, a daughter of Invermay, who is said to have married John Betoun or Bethune of Balfour.
