Per researcher Eric Waller, Sir Robert was the eldest son of Samuel William and Anne (Jocelyn) Waller. He was Commissioner of Revenue in County Tipperary, Ireland; also was M.P. for Dundalk (1761 -1780). In 1780 he became 1st Baronet of Newport, County Tipperary. The baronets are till represented today, the 10th Baronet being the American journalist John Michael Waller. The 4th Baronet married Rebecca Guinness, daughter of Arthur Guinness of the brewing company, and rose to the level of Vice President of the company.
