Biographical Summary
"Sir Thomas Wallace of Craigie, otherwise Craigie-Wallace, as also of Newton, both in co. Ayr, 1st son of William Wallace of Failford, in that county, by Agnes, daughter of Sir Thomas Boyd, of Bollinshaw, which Wlliam was son and heir of Rev. William Wallace, Minister of Failford (a younger brother of Sir John Wallace, of Criagie Wallace), was admitted an Advocate, 4 July 1661, and having succeeded to the estate of Craigie Wallace, by the death of his 2nd cousin, Sir Hugh Wallace, of the same (grandson of Sir John Wallace abovenamed), was Knighted before 1665; was M.P. [S] for Ayrshire, 1665 and 1667, and was created a Baronet 8 March 1669-70, with rem. to heirs male of the body, the patent stating that the said Sir Hugh had disponed his estates an the title of Knight Baronet to him. He was appointed a Senator of the Court of Justice, 28 June 1671, and Lord Justice Clerk, 9 July 1675. In 1678 he bought the estate of Ellerslie, co. Renfrew, and settled it on his 2nd son Thomas. He married, probably about 1660, Euphene, daughter and heir of William Gemmell, of Templeland and Garrive, co. Ayr, by (--), daughter of (--) Crauford of Camlarg. He died 26 March 1680, at Newton aforesaid."
