9 May 1592: Contract of wadset between John Graham of Knockdolian with consent of Helen Kennedy, Countess of Eglinton, his spouse, and of Sir Patrick Houston of that ilk, superior of the lands and John Houston, his son and apprent heir on the one part, and William Edmonston, son and apparent heir of Sir James Edmonston of Duntreath on the other part, whereby the said John dispones to the said William the £10 land of Auchincloich, Hiltoun and Auldmarrock as principal and a 15 poundland of the 40 poundland of Grugar in special warrandice under reversion for repayment of £2000; at Glasgow. 7 November 1609: Extract registered contract betwixt Hugh, Earl of Eglinton, Lord Montgomery and Kilwinning with consent of Dame Margaret Montgomery, Countess of Eglinton, his spouse and she for herself, with his consent on the one part and William Edmestoun, fiar of Duntreath and Isobel Haldane, his spouse on the other part. Whereby for the sum of 20000lib Scots then borrowed by the said Earl from the said William Edmestoun and his said spouse; the said earl with the consent of his said spouse, sold to the said William Edmestoun and his said spouse, and the longest liver of them two in conjunct fee, and to the heirs lawfully gotten or to be gotten betwixt them, which failing to the said William Edmestoun, his nearest and lawful heirs and assignees whatsoever; the said town and lands of Drummoster with the mill of the same, the towns and lands of Busbie Mekill and Litill, Knockorsoch, Sorbie and Sorbie Craigis, the towns and lands of Eistmaynes and Westmaynes of Ardrossan and Saltcoitmaynes, with the mill of Ardrossan, all lying in the said barony of Ardrossan; under reversion on payment of the said sum of 20000lib. By which contract the said William Edmestoun, with the consent of his said spouse, sold back the said lands to the said Earl during the non-redemption thereof, for the yearly payment to him of 30 score bolls victual, of the different kins therein mentioned.
