Sir William Lundie of that Ilk
Sir William was married to Elizabeth Hepburn, daughter of Sir Patrick Hepburn 1st Lord Hailes. Sir William was Sheriff of Fife in 1491. This indirectly followed on from his uncle, Andrew Lundie of Pitlochy, who was sheriff of Fife regularly from 1452 to 1471. The office of Sheriff of Fife was to be held two years later by Robert Lundie of Balgonie, a cousin of William.
On the 4th of January 1485, his father resigned the lands and Barony of Lundy in favour of William. Around the same time Sir John also resigned the lands of Hatton in favour of William. On the 5th of May 1486, Sir William was given sasine of the lands of Hatton; and on the 8th of May 1486, William was given sasine of the lands and Barony of Lundy, and the lands of Wester Pitcaple.
William died before 1528, when he was succeeded by his grandson, Walter Lundy of Pratis. He had at least four children. His only known son is
- Thomas Lundie of Pratis (Pratis being an estate to the north of Lundy). Thomas was married firstly to Isabella Boswell, daughter of the Laird of Balmuto, in a contract dated 4th July 1488; and secondly to Christian Sutherland, daughter and heiress of Alexander Sutherland of Duffus, and relict of William Oliphant, son of 1st Lord Oliphant. This marriage took place sometime after 1508. Sir Thomas's predeceased his father, and his son by his first marriage, Walter, succeeded to Lundy.
Sir William's three known daughters were:
- Margaret, who married Sir George Forbes 3rd of Rires around 1500;
- Anne, who married John Melville of Carnbee; and
- Isobel, who married an Arthur Forbes, and may well be the same Isobel Lundy who married David Lindsay, 8th Earl of Crawford.
