Sir William le Prouz, Sheriff of Devon

The timeline does not permit there being more than one of him, despite various assumptions over the centuries. He is definitely stated to have married Alice Ferrers, daughter of one Sir Fulk Ferrers and sister of another, in the year 1240.

Died 1269; IPM held 10/21/1270.

Four sons: William the elder (1245-1315), Richard, Hugh, and William the younger.

Lord Gidley, Stodbury, Cumesheved, Hacche, and Colton in Devon. Sheriff of Devon

      William from 1st marriage, Richard from 2nd.

Sir William was Sheriff of Devon in 1269. He held Gidley, Stodbury, Cumesheved, Hacche, and Colton in Devonshire. His estate was probated on 21 October 1270; Inq.p.m. writ.
