About Wilkerson Sizemore

  • * Sizemore DNA (Strain 0-M-242 & P-36) appeared in the Long family in 1841 in Ashe County, NC. Ancestry.com linked Sizemore DNA to Wilkerson, who had incompatible DNA Strain M-253.< ???? >. Wilkerson, however, was newly married and located in Clay Co., KY in 1940 & not nearby to pair with Mahala Long. It appears rather that George J. Sizemore (Strain O- M-242 & P-36) (or another descendant of George 'Chief of All' Sizemore of Ashe Co, NC ) fathered Francis Marion 'Dickie Phipps' (1842) out of wedlock in 1841 with Mahala Long, Daughter of Benjamin Long. Three (3) young Sizemore men between ages of 18-25 were counted in the 1840 census in Ashe County, NC and appear more likely to have been suitors.

Most of the Sizemores relocated to Kentucky between 1830 & 1838 due to the relocation of Cherokee Indians to Oklahoma by1840. The Sizemores remained behind to relocate to Kentucky & Western Virginia (now WVA). They attempted to qualify for Cherokee reparations by forming the White Top (Laurel) Indian tribe in the 1880's, but their membership was rejected by both the Cherokees & the Federal Government due to lack of relocation thru the "Trail of Tears".
