About Sofie Löwy
My dear, good Rathin
Your second letter has made me very sad, that because of us you had such terrible orderings. I am so very sorrowed by the fact that my good, smart Rudolf has left us. (He died) There is hardly a day or hour where I do not have to cry about it. My husband can not see me cry, he gets upset about it. He says one can not change things that have happened. When something happens to the children I am besides myself. Because of that I am old and grey I have not written to Ronsberg (?) God forbid. In summer mother had some visitors, the wife of Laib Grunhut from Regensburg. She had nothing important to tell to mother except such a story. I told mother right away that it is a big and rude gossip. I am so sorry that you have such inconveniences because of me, after all you have done for me and my Rudolf. May the Lord bless you for your goodness and grant you health and happiness. We surely thank you for all you have done for us. I have bought the children long pants and shirts for the winter time. They have a long way to school. I received the money from Uncle and it was a very welcome gift. I gave 15 Gulden from it to mother, she sends 1000 thanks for it. This winter is long and we have had a strong rainfall. May God keep on helping us. Now mother can not come to America. I thank God if she does not complain for an entire hour. She has gotten so mysterious (senile), like a little child. She does not ask for anything but what she already knows. I hope she will keep her health. Please do not worry or be upset. I thank you very much for your good report with uncle who like you very much. That makes me very happy. I kiss you 1000 times
Your loving sister (?) Sofie.
