1. Wedding of Spyridon Kalanzis and Trisevgeni Paizi

Ithaca 14 May 1846; transcript of an act

Parish of the Church of Kyrias Theotokou ton Isodion (Presentation of the Virgin) in Lefki of the island of Ithaca.

In the year 1846 on 21 April at 10.00 am I, the Reverend Dimitrios Kolyvas son of Ioannis resident of the village of Lefki, have married in a first wedding according to the rites of the Eastern Orthodox Christian Church, Spyridon Kalanzis 25 years old resident of the village of Lefki and born in Lefki son of Dimitrios Kalanzis resident of Lefki, to Trisevgeni Paizi 24 years old resident of Anoghi and born in Anoghi daughter of Spyridon Paizis resident of Anoghi after the relevant bans and the authorisation of his holiness the bishop given on 10 April 1846, the best man (paranymfos) being Nikolaos Kalanzis son of Gerassimos resident of Lefki and this wedding was performed in the Holy Church of of Theotokos tis Kimiseos (Dormition) of Anoghi in the presence of witnesses Ioannis Kalanzis son of Georgios and Gerassimos Kalanzis son of Nikolaos both resident of Lefki and signed by them, both groom and bride being illiterate.

In Ithaca village of Lefki of the Prefecture Polyktorion. Today 4th January 1874 the undersigned Vicar of the Church of the Reception of the Virgin Mary, under authorisation from Mr Paredrou, have interred Spyridon Kalantzis son of Dimitrios aged 58 born and resident locally; he died from leg problems.

The present act was drafted in front of the Witnesses Gerassimos E Kouvalias and Georgios N Kouvalias residents of Lefki of this Prefecture.
