Stanisław Kostka Wikszemski, MD

Stanisław Kostka Wikszemski was born in 1807 in Lithuania. In 1823, he joined the Piarists congregation in Lubaszow. In 1827, he was sent to Vilnius, where he entered the philosophy faculty. In 1831, he left the University and became a professor of Latin and French at the Piarist school in Wilkomierz. While he had not yet received the last major order, the priesthood, he left the congregation in 1833. He returned to Vilnius and studied medicine until 1838. He practiced briefly in Saint Petersburg before undertaking a long scientific training trip to Europe (unspecified, but most likely including France, whose language he had taught).

In 1840, Stanisław Kostka Wikszemski moved back to Vilnius, where he acquired a high-respect reputation. He was chief physician at Saint Jacques Hospital for twenty-five years. He was also secretary and later vice-president of the Vilnius Medical Society.

He died on January 9, 1875.

WIKSZEMSKI (Stanislaus) Naissance 1807 Décès 09/01/1875

Né en 1807 en Lituanie, il entra en 1823 dans la congrégation des Piaristes de Lubaszow. En 1827, il fut envoyé à Vilna (Vilnius) : il entra alors à la faculté de philosophie. Il quitta en 1831 l'Université et devint professeur de latin et de langue française à l'école des Piaristes de Wilkomierz. Alors qu'il n'avait pas encore reçu le dernier ordre majeur, la prêtrise, il quitta la congrégation en 1833. Il revint à Vilna et fit ses études de médecine jusqu'en 1838. Il exerça pendant une courte période à Saint Petersbourg, avant d'entreprendre un long voyage scientifique de formation en Europe (sans précision, mais incluant très probablement la France, dont il avait enseigné la langue).

En 1840, il s'installa à Vilna, où il acquit une renommée certaine. Il fut médecin- chef à l’hôpital Saint Jacques pendant vingt cinq ans. Il fut aussi secrétaire et plus tard vice- président de la Société Médicale de Vilna.

Il mourut le 09 Janvier 1875.

Stanisław Kostka Wikszemski urodził się w 1807 roku na Litwie. W 1823 wstąpił do zgromadzenia pijarów w Lubaszowie. W 1827 został wysłany do Wilna, gdzie wstąpił na wydział filozoficzny. W 1831 opuścił Uniwersytet i został profesorem łaciny i języka francuskiego w szkole pijarów w Wilkomierzu. Choć nie otrzymał jeszcze ostatniego wyższego święceń, czyli kapłaństwa, opuścił zgromadzenie w 1833 r. Wrócił do Wilna i studiował medycynę do 1838 r. Przez krótki czas praktykował w Sankt Petersburgu, po czym odbył długą podróż naukową do Europy (nieokreśloną, ale najprawdopodobniej w tym Francję, której języka uczył).

W 1840 r. Stanisław Kostka Wikszemski powrócił do Wilna, gdzie zyskał sobie dobrą reputację. Przez dwadzieścia pięć lat był głównym lekarzem w szpitalu Saint Jacques. Był także sekretarzem, a później wiceprezesem Wileńskiego Towarzystwa Lekarskiego.

Zmarł 9 stycznia 1875 r.
