About Stanislaus Laskosky, SV/PROG
Stanislaus Laskosky (originally: Stanisław Laskowski) originated from Poznań (Posen), the main city of the western part of Poland. Serving in Napoleon's army (in San Domingo – 1803 or Holland – 1809) entered the British captivity, where he was recruited into the British army. Drafted into the 1st Battalion 60th Regiment of Foot, stationed since September 1811 in South Africa, where he arrived with his division of the ship "Lion". After his release from the service received permission to settle in the Cape Colony (24/4/1817). Around 1838 he was a gardener who worked at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens and also lived in Kirstenbosch. He joined the NedGeref Kerk in Wynberg. His daughter, Dorothea Maria Lakosky, married Paul Paulsen (Jr), son of Paul Paulsen and Susanna Wilhelmina van die Kaap.
