Stephanus Kotze (1941 - 2008)
Brief overview:
Stephanus (67), was shot in the face and died during a farm attack on 4th October 2008 on a farm in Garies, Northern Cape. Kimberley police said. Spokesperson Cherelle Ehlers said the attack happened on Friday evening when two armed men confronted 69-year-old farmer Nick Engelbrecht as he was arriving at his farm.
The men threatened Engelbrecht with two firearms stolen from his farm, forced him into his vehicle and made him drive to a nearby farm. Engelbrecht then ran towards the house of another farmer, Stefanus Kotze and his wife. The men then shot and wounded Engelbrecht in his upper left arm and shot Kotze in the face. Kotze died on the scene. His wife locked the house and called police and the attackers fled the scene. Kotze's wife Aletta, and Engelbrecht provided a description of the men.

- Police managed to arrest the men, aged 18 and 19 in the early hours of Saturday morning. They will appear in court shortly on charges of housebreaking, theft, kidnapping, malicious damage to property, murder and attempted murder.

- The two men from the Garies area who killed a farmer in a farm attack were sentenced in the circuit court.
- Roysten Saul (20), and Johan Dirks (20), previously admitted that they kidnapped Renier Engelbrecht on 3rd October last year and then shot dead.his neighbour, Stephanus Kotze.
- According to Detective Insp. Karel du Toit released Dirks, Saul and a cellmate escaped from detention in Garies in February. At the time, they were involved in a house burglary and car theft.
- They appeared on August 31st in the Springbok Regional Court in connection with the two cases.
- Judge C. J. Olivier sentenced Saul to 25 years and Dirks to 22 years effective imprisonment
