In 1732 he went to Fredrick, Maryland to settle on part of a land grant called Tasker's Chance known as Mortality which extended from Harmony Grove to the Monocacy River. It contained 473 acres, Deed dated July 28,1746. Purchased 307 acres called Dear-Bought October 1,1753.

Both Tasker's Chance and Dearbought are now suburban housing developments that still bear those names.

The photograph is of the house in which he lived with his wife, Anna Maria Catherine Brunner in Frederick. Today the house is preserved as a historic site and open to visitors. It was built by Anna Maria's father in 1756. It is the oldest house in Federick and considered an excellent example of German colonial architecture. The family named the house and its lands Schifferstadt, after their home town in Germany.
