Stephen Skaggs

Stephen joined the Liberty Baptist Church in November of 1833. "We the Seperate Baptist Church of Christ meet at Liberty meeting house on the first Saterday in November 1833 and after prayer Proceed to Buismess of the day. First choose Brother Hoover Moderaator Second Peace cold for and found Third a door opened for the Reseption of members Fourth Stephen Skaggs was recived in to our felow Ship by Experance and Baptism...."(spelling here as originally written)

  OBITUARY  from Passing Generations:  Stephen Skaggs, husband of Rhoda Warren Skaggs died 27 Oct, 1858 of Chills and Fever, age 68 year

In the 1850 Green County census, Stephen and Rhoda are family 344. He is listed as 60 years old and she is 46. There are 9 children in the household: Henry, 25; Mary, 27; William, 22; Elizabeth, 24; Uriah, 19; Hezekiah, 17; Elijah, 13; Rachel, 9; and James, 7. He and Rhoda are neighbors of Hiram and Margaret Johnson. Also living in the area are John and Malinda DeSpain.

  In the 1870 Green County census, Rhoda Skaggs is a widower, her husband  Stephen has died in 1858. Living with her is her youngest son, James T. Skaggs, age 26.
