About Surgeon-Maj Gen Sir John By Cole Reade, KCB
Served with the 2nd Battalion Rifle Brigade throughout the Crimean War (1854-55), including the battles of Alma & Inkerman, and the siege of Sebastopol - was wounded on the 14th Nov, 1855, at the explosion of the French Siege Train (Medal with three clasps, & the Turkish Medal). Served with the Battalion throughout the Indian Mutiny, including the actions at Cawnmpore ("Relief of"..under Havelock),the Relief of Lucknow, and numerous affairs during the Oudh Campaign (Medal with clasp). Served in the Afghan War of 1878-80 with the Candahar Column under Sir Donald Stewart, mentioned in despatches (Medal). Honorary Surgeon to Queen Victoria & Edward VII.
