The granddaughter of Revolutionary War hero & first governor of Kentucky Issac Shelby, Susan Shelby married Santa Fe trader Samuel Magoffin. They became wealthy from the trade & traveled across the United States to their stores in Mexico. She is best known for the journal she kept during a caravan trip from Independence, Missouri along the Santa Fe trail.
