About Susan McGillivray
Susan was a Cree lady whom William McGillivray had taken as 'country wife' in the tradition of the fur traders. They were the parents of three sons and a daughter, though one son did not survive to adulthood.
died in the Kaministikean River area buried in Thunder Bay, near old fort site, head stone moved to Mountain View cemetary
"A monument in honor of Susan, first wife of William McGillivray, was raised in the Fort William Cemetery at an unknown date,... . It was inscribed 'To the Memory of Susan the mother of Simon, Joseph, & Peter McGillivray who died 26 August 1819.' ... A modern memorial dedicated to Susan is located at Mountainview Cemetery in Thunder Bay. The original one was moved there in 1883 from the Fort William cemetery on the Kaministiquia River."
