About Susanna Alford
Wife of Meredith Alford, sister of Josiah Hodges.
The family of Susanna Hodges Alford and Josiah Hodges is evident in the will of Josiah Lairl Harrelson, Sr. who names his grandson Josiah Hodge as an heir. Family oral tradition and DNA plus some written evidence have indicated that Josiah and Susanna were siblings. That Josiah is named for his grandfather and Susanna for her aunt or mother and grandmother Su Song Harrelson seems evident.
Likely candidates for mother of Susanna and Josiah are daughters of Josiah Lairl Harrelson, Sr. who are also named in his will - Abigail, Mary Ann, Jane, and Susannah. The likely spouse and father of Josiah and Susanna is Thomas or John Hodge/s who lived next door and had families of the right age to include Susanna and Josiah according to census data. The spouse is referred to as Placeholder Hodge until further evidence as to whom it could be.
Something else known is that Elizabeth Blanton Hodges introduced her niece Avy Jane Alford (daughter of sister-in-law Susanna Hodges and Meredith Alford) to Elizabeth's nephew Moses Newton Blanton. This story was told to me by my grandmother Attelia Roberts Floyd, granddaughter of Avy Jane and Moses Newton Blanton. SFG
Children of Susanna and Meredith Alford were:
- Avy Jane Alford Blanton,
- Clarkey Alford, Eliza Alford,
- Helen Victoria McDuffie Blanton,
- Jullia Ann Elizabeth Alford
- Meredith Alford, Jr.

Note to document: Susanna apparently died before 1863, based on information provided by Valerie Harris including DNA. Meredith moves to Florida with Meredith Jr. The daughters are "married off " or about to be settled in some sort of positions with teaching. Research on the Florida family is on-going. SFG
