She received a Spanish land grant in Washington County, one of the few women to hold a land title in her own name. She settled in Millican, Brazos County, where she married Moses Cummins. In 1841 Mrs. Clampitt gave two of her sons, Nathan and Francis G. Clampitt, 3,333 acres of her original land grant. She died on August 3, 1868.

Susannah Graves Clampitt, widow of Nathan Arnett Clampitt Sr., came to Texas as a member of Stephen F. Austin's second colony, arriving in 1825, age 44, accompanied by three sons, Ezekiel, Nathan Arnett Jr., Francis Graves and daughter, Elizabeth. It is evident, though not proven that she was a direct descendant from Capt. Thomas Graves who settled in Essex County, VA in 1608. She settled on Yegua Creek, Washington County, TX, on a league of land given her to her by the Mexican government. Her son Ezekiel, was also granted a league. Her second marriage was to Moses Cummins at Independence Tx. She lived in Washington County TX until her death Aug 3 1868. It is believed she is buried near William Pen in Dallas Family Cemetery with her son, Nathan Arnett Clamplitt and wife Mary Ann Dallas. Information researched and verified by Eloise Clampitt Wacherbarth, great granddaughter.
