Susannah was a Cherokee woman


Biography

According to Emmet Starr, Susannah Fields was born in the Cherokee Nation about 1780, the daughter of Richard Fields, a white man, and Susannah Emory, the Cherokee granddaughter of trader Ludovic Grant. She had children by two men, George Brewer and Thomas Foreman. Her children were Aky Brewer, and Samuel, Nellie, Charles, William, Joseph, Sally, David, George, Thomas, Susan, James, Edward, and Elizabeth Foreman. [1] The Foreman family of fourteen appears in the 1835 Cherokee census living on Candy's Creek (now Tennessee). [2] They were Removed to Indian Territory in the Hair Conrad detachment over the Trail of Tears. In 1851 Thomas, Susannah, and six of their children were living in the Going Snake District, Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory. [3] Her date of death is unknown.

  • Researcher James Hicks believes that Susannah was the daughter of Richard Fields by a different Cherokee wife.
