About Susie Forney Hughes
Mrs. Susie F. Eby Hughes, 78, 405 Reading Ave. West Reading, died in her sleep Saturday morning at her home. Mrs. Hughes was the wife of Theodore R. Hughes, a retired staff member of the former Lebanon Evening Report and the Reading Eagle and Times. A native of Dauphin County, she resided near Palmyra and in Lebanon most of her life before moving to Reading in 1914. She was the daughter of the late Robert L. and Elizabeth Forney Eby, of this city. She was married in Philadelphia in 1902 and she and her husband celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary last August 30. She was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church, the Woman's Auxiliary of the parish and the auxiliaries of the Berks County Association for the Blind, Inc., and the Salvation Army. Stricken with a severe heart attack in October of 1957, Mrs. Hughes was an invalid since that time but was considered to be improved until her sudden death Saturday. Surviving are her husband, a former Sunday editor of the Reading Eagle and later county editor of the Reading Times; two sons, Thomas R. Hughes, Shillington and John B. Hughes, Wilmington, Del.; also three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, and a brother H. Forney Eby, Lebanon. [Lebanon Daily News, October 31, 1960, Page 2]
