TJ Tlali (1952 - 2023)

Brief overview:

TJ (71), an up-and-coming farmer and his wife (64), were attacked on their farm Kaalspruit near the N6 highway between Bloemfontein and Reddersburg, on 29/08/2023. TJ sustained multiple wounds to his head and body, his wife was found under a mattress in critical condition.

Dr. Jane Buys, security risk analyst from Vrystaat Landbou, says the motive for the attack and murder is still unknown and initial investigations indicate that nothing was stolen. "They were very seriously assaulted and left for dead."

Sgt. Mahlomola Kareli, says the couple's son suspected trouble after he unsuccessfully tried to contact his parents since the weekend and asked one of his friends to investigate.
When the friend arrived at the couple's farmhouse, it initially seemed that everything was in order. However, he found that the house's doors were not locked. After entering the house, he found the 71-year-old farmer with multiple cuts on his head and body in a pool of blood on the floor. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The friend immediately contacted the police and emergency services. The police found the farmer's 64-year-old wife under their bed. She was in a critical condition, but still alive and was taken for medical treatment.
