About Taylor Park Brockbank

Death Claims Ex-Senator, Educator, 78

Taylor Park Brockbank, 78, a Utah state senator, for eight years and teacher and principal In the Granite School District for 51 years, died early Friday at his home, 4636 Highland Dr., of causes incident to age. '
Because of his contributions to education generally and to the Granite District in particular, the Brockbank Junior High School in Magna was named in his honor.

As a state senator (1944-52), Mr. Brockbank sponsored much legislation to improve and equalize the financing of the public education program in Utah.

Born Jan. 31,1879, in Holladay, Mr. Brockbank was a son of Isaac and Mary Ann Park Brockbank.

He received his early education in the Granite and: Salt Lake City schools, was graduated from the University of Utah with a master's degree and did postgraduate work at the University of California in Berkeley and George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He was principal of the Cyprus High School for 23 years.

His last two years of service with the Granite District was as supervisor of secondary education. For several years he taught Americanization and citizenship classes in Salt Lake County.

Mr. Brockbank held various positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He served for 11 years in the bishopric of the Winder Ward in Holladay Stake High Priests Quorum at the time of his death.

He married Sarah LeCheminant in the Salt Lake Temple, Aug. 21, 1902. Survivors include his widow, six children, 24 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren. Sons and daughters are Ethel LaVon Johnson and Martha Elaine Evans of Berkeley, Calif.; Mary Winona Cooke, Bernard Park Brockbank, Sarah Glenice Keys and Vaoma Jensen, Salt Lake City. Also surviving are two sisters and two brothers, Louise B. Reynolds, Mary B. North, William Brockbank and Alma P. Brockbank, all of Salt Lake City.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11:30 p.m. in the Holladay LDS Stake Center, 4917 Viewmont. Friends may call at 260 E. South Temple Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday at the family residence from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
