Thelma Rose Case

Obituary: Thelma R. Case, 31, of San Jose, California, died June 10, 1972, at Los Gatos Hospital in San Jose. A native of Bisbee, Arizona, Mrs. Case lived in San Jose for 6 years. She is survived by her husband, Sam E. Case, Senior Machinery Designer for F.M.C. Corporation in Santa Clara, California; step-son, Arthur D. Case of California; step-daughter, Ruthie Hughes, of Phoenix, Arizona; mother Mrs. Olga McKinney; grandmother Mrs. Eva Samardich, both of Tucson, Arizona. Services will be held June 12, 1972, at 1 p.m. at Darling-Fischer Garden Chapel in Campbell, California. Interment at Los Gatos Memorial Park Cemetery.

We are looking for ancestral information for Thelma Rose McKinney aka Tammy Case. Tammy was born on October 28, 1940, in Bisbee, Cochise, Arizona and named after two aunts, Thelma McKinney and Rose G. Samardzich. The nickname "Tammy" was given because her maternal grandfather couldn't pronounce "Thelma" and sounded as though he were saying "Tammy". The nickname stuck her entire life.

On September 10, 1964, Tammy married Sam Elroy Case in Las Vegas, Clark, Nevada. She died June 10, 1972, in Los Gatos, Santa Clara, California, after a short battle with cancer. Less than a month later, Tammy's step-daughter gave birth to a precious little girl and named her "Tammy Jeanne" in honor of Tammy Case and the baby's maternal grandmother.

We have some information on Tammy's paternal line. Tammy's father was Daniel Carroll McKinney whose parents were Joseph Thomas McKinney and Dortha Roxana Madsen. Our information on Tammy's maternal line is very sketchy. Her mother's name was Olga G. Samardzich. Olga's parents were Joko G. (George) Samardzich and Eva Dabovich.
