Brief overview:
Theo (43), a member of the local community policing forum (CPF) was shot dead on Monday morning during a shootout with burglars at Rietfontein on the West Rand.
According to Capt. Police spokesman Appel Ernst said Theo saw about two men leaving a house on a smallholding at about 10am. When he went to investigate, he found discovered there was a housebreaking.
"He chased the suspects and a shooting broke out. He was struck in the head and later died in a clinic to his wound, ”Ernst said. The alleged robber was wounded in the leg and taken to a local hospital.
According to Mr. Jorncy Page, chairman of the Muldersdrift CPF, says De Jager's death is a tragic loss for the CPF and the community. “He has always been an active member of the community except for the last few years. He has worked hard to secure the community and his death is a loss to everyone.
