"Col Theophilus Cotton was the son of Josiah and Hannah (Sturtevant) Cotton; born 1716, married Martha Saunders 1742. He was a zealous and active whig and patriot, and served sometime in the provincial army. He left several children." (Page 54
Colonel of the Massachusetts Continental Army Regiment 27th May to December 1775, and Colonel of the Massachusetts Militia.
