Thomas Bradford, of Tickhill

Thomas Bradford was more more likely William's brother, who signed his will in 1605, than his son.

Included in GM Fessenden's early genealogy of the Bradford family: son of William (d. 1595/6), "Thomas2, of whom no records appear, saving that he had a dau. Margaret, bapt. 9 Mar, 1578."[1]

Evidently Mr. Fessenden did not have all the available information. Thomas was identified as a son of Robert by Mr. Brown in 1956.[2] from whom we draw the following biography:

Thomas, son of Robert, a resident of Wellingley in the parish of Tickhill, York, made his will 3 Jun 1605 and was buried at Tickhill, 9 Jun 1605.[2]

He married at Arksey, York, 21 Nov 1562, Margaret Fleming. She was living 1 Oct 1618, when with her son John she executed the will of another son Richard Bradforthe of Wellingly. Marg: Bradforth, widow, was buried at Tickhill 2 Jan 1621/2.[2]

Peter Bradforth, his grandfather, bequeathed him a ewe lamb. His father in 1552, left him 25 marks. His uncle, Peter Bradfurthe, appointed him one of five executors of his will 12 Feb 1557/8.[2]

His will was proved 10 July 1605. From this will and the 18 July 1618 will of his son Richard is the following list of children:[2]

1. Thomas, eldest son, had 3 children in 1605, but not listed in Richard's 1618 will
2. William, executor of his father's will. Living with two children in 1618.
3. Richard of Wellingley, husbandman. Died 1618, married to ____ who died before he die. Had a child, Joane m. ____ Nicholson.
4. Dorothy
5. Elizabeth
6. Joane
7. Robert, m. Dorothy Stokes
8. John still living in 1618
9. Nicholas named in 1605 and 1618
10. Margaret,"perhaps the Margaret, daughter of Thomas Bradfourth, who was bapt. at Austerfield, co. York, 9 Mar 1577/8; named in her father's will, of 3 June 1605; apparently living 18 July 1618; m. before 3 June 1605 ____ [? ____ Bradforthe. Child (? surname Bradforthe): 1. Robert, probably the child mentioned in his grandfather's will, of 3 June 1605; living 18 July 1618.
11. George (perhaps a son of Thomas (d. 1605)); George buried at Tickhill 29 July 1591.

Child (illegitimate):

1. Robert (called Roberth Hillyman alias Bradforth). Thomas (d. 1605) left him £4, to be paid three years after his death, "a discharge for which was to be obtained from the child's mother."
