Thomas Burroughs (Burrowes) Sr, son of Edward and Mary Higby Burrus (Burrowes), born 1676 in Newtown, New York and died in Hopewell, Hunterdon County, New Jersey before December 15 1764. He received land from his father which in part had been given to him by Edward Higby, his father-in-law on November 16 1700. [1]
He married (1) Charity Unknown about 1701 and (2) Mercy Furman, daughter of Josiah and Sarah Strickland(daughter of Edmund and Hannah Strickland, the widow of Thomas Roberts, Furman, in Maidenhead, New Jersey. Mercy was the widow of Gershom Moore who died before August 9 1723 [2] in Maidenhead, New Jersey. [3]

Gershom Moore, wife's son, a bond to be paid by Stephen, his son and these Grandchildren named were: Hannah (Brinsley) Brinson, daughter of Charity and Zebulon Stout Sr and a codicil to the will made November 26 1761 regarding Granddaughter Mercy Burrowes then married to Henry Mershon in 1761 and his daughter Hannah's (Husband ?Joseph Disbrow 1739 page 57) daughters Charity, Rachel and Mercy Disborrough, Foster, Rachel, Rebekah and Charity, children of Thomas Jr, his eldest son.

Stephen Burrows and son Stephen Jr, Henry Mershon, husband of Mercy, his granddaughter, Foster Burrowes, his grandson, and Gershom Moore, his stepson, are listed. In addition Job and Joseph Burrowes are also listed. [8] 2. Sarah Hart, wife of Stephen Burroughs, was the sister of John Hart, signer of the Declaration of Independence.
