Thomas Carlton and family moved to Georgia (Wilkes County) arriving May 9, 1792 and settled on Beaverdam Creek, then moved on the Academy April 30, 1799. They later moved to Morgan County, Georgia on January 29, 1810, near Madison where he was soon elected as Superior Court Clerk. He remained Clerk until his death. He departed this life on Saturday, June 20, 1818 at 2 o'clock in his 66th year.
