About Thomas Cartwright
Thomas married Grace Halley in the Pasquotank Friends Meeting on 4 April 1693, and they were members in good standing of the Friends Society until his death in 1707.
He passed away after signing his will on 4 March 1707 and before 15 April 1707 when the will was probated. In 1694, the name changed to Cartwright. Members of this line changed to Cartrette, Cartrett. From the Will of Thomas Carteret, his sons were Thomas, Robert, Job, John, William; daughters: Catren, Mary Elisabeth. Wife and Executrix: Grace Cartwright.
The will is a real mess with poor handwriting and unclear intentions. His children were all young and we know from later documents (e.g. Amos Trueblood's will) that his land must have been divided up differently than he stated as Amos stated that Elizabeth had land from her father and there is none mentioned. Clearly there was some readjustment between Thomas's death in 1707 and when the children begin to marry/come of age in 1714.
The children have been put in, although their birth dates are not recorded in meeting records. I have put Elizabeth and Catherine as twins born in the year after the marriage. Even so since they married the Trueblood sons in 1714 they would neither have been 20 years of age, young by Quaker standards. The remainder have been put in with the sons in the order they were mentioned in the will. John died in 1714 leaving his own will, so must have been born first.
