2. Thomas was born about 1618 and died at Reading, Massachusetts on September 12, 1693. He married (1st) "Ealse" (_____) who died at Reading on June 28, 1658. He married on August 31, 1658 (2nd) Mary (_____) Swain who died at Reading on July 30, 1688. Mary was the widow of Jeremiah Swain who had died at Reading on April 2, 1658. Thomas is listed as marrying 1st wife Else/Alice, last name unknown at Lynn/Reading; 2nd wife Mary Swayne, Aug. 31, 1658, Reading.

1 Swayne, Mary was born 15 Apr 1642 in Charlestown, Suffolk, Massachusetts. She was married (1) to Thomas Clarke 31 Aug 1658 in Reading, Middlesex, Massachusetts. [SIC: her mother, not her] She was married (2) to Edward Marshall 9 Jun 1665 in Reading.

Pope305 and Moriarty278 all give Mary's birth as 15 Apr 1647, but Swain finds either 1647 or before 1643, while Baldwin62 saynd that the decade was supplied by the compiler from other sources. Torrey reports the first birth in this family as 1642. Since her first marriage was in 1658, her birth year was more likely 1642, and so I show her birth as being in Charlestown, where her parents were living at the time. (It was a common practice to enter the births of existing children into the record of a new town to which the early settlers moved.) In both of her marriage records Mary's name is spelled Swayne.
