Anecdotal evidence of Thomas' middle name of Addison: one year before his birth, Thomas’ uncle John Cobbs married Susannah Cobbs. A year later, Thomas was given the middle name Addison. It is possible that uncle and aunt John and Susanna were Thomas' God-parents.

He was nearing his century mark, one spring day when he ordered a stableboy to saddle is horse, and took off across country to visit friends. When he arrived he told the servant who ran out to assist him from his mount, to "get away, boy, I've come a-courting!".

Biography

A unique and distinguished Revolutionary Soldier from the Commonwealth of Virginia, Thomas Cobb, patriarch of a large family of prominent descendants in Georgia, was a centenarian. He maintained his active life as an agriculturist and leader in official affairs until his death in 1832 at the phenomenal age of 111 years.
Captain Thomas Cobb is the ancestor of three former State Regents of the Georgia State Society, NSDAR. All three of them have also served as Vice Presidents General from Georgia.

Death

Thomas died sometime between between the time his will was written in 1831 and probated in 1833.[4] Daughters of the Revolution credit him with 110 years meaning that he would have died in 1832 or 1833.[3]

Revolutionary War Service

A 1941 Daughters of the Revolution compilation of Georgia Revolutionary War veterans has the following entry:

NOTE: From Augusta Chronicle. "CAPT. THOMAS COBB, age 110 years, a native of Buckingham Co., Va. Came to Ga. 1784. A REV. SOLDIER. His patriotism induced him to take part with his country for the Independence of these States and he was often associated in the Councils of the Chiefs in those startling times."* [2]
While the Daughters of the Revolution files are behind a pay-wall, anecdotal evidence that Thomas is accepted as a DAR Patriot Ancestor lies in that one of the DAR chapters is called the Captain Thomas Cobb Chapter NSDAR. The chapter's web page has the following entry:[3]
