Thomas I Ellis Sr., a farmer, was the son of the Rev. Rowland Ellis also a farmer and Margaret Verch Robert Humphreys. (as recorded by Hinshaw, among others)
His father was also a Quaker Minister for The Society of Friends. His parents were both born in Wales and died in Gwynedd, PA. They immigrated on 16 Oct 1686 when Thomas was only 3 years old, arriving in PA in April 1687. Thomas did not reach the province of Pennsylvania until c/1707. His father had returned to Wales to assemble the bulk of his family for a second trip to PA.
There are statements that Thomas had an association with a meeting in Wales: <http://www.s-h-systems.co.uk/hotels/dolserau.html>;: "Dolserau Hall was opened in 1863 as the country home of MP, Charles Edwards. The building was a replacement for the original hall damaged by fire which had been an important Quaker meeting house in the 17th century. The Quaker Interpretive centre in Dolgellau, the burial ground at Tyddyn Garreg and two books by local novelist Marion Eames give more information on the significance Dolserau played in the Quaker activities in this part of Wales." Precise locations are noted below.
