Biography

Thomas Fellows (or Felloes) was born on 29 Jan 1685 (1686?) in Salisbury in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. He was the son of Samuel Fellows, Jr., and Abigail Barnard.[1] He was baptized and owned the covenant when he was 20 years old, on 18 Nov 1705, but was not admitted as a member of the Salisbury church until 1719.[2]

Thomas was a cooper, with his business in Salisbury.[3]

Thomas married Elizabeth Eastman (or Easman) on 10 Dec 1713, in Salisbury.[4] In the following years, they registered the births of six children there:

Abigall Fellows (twin, b. 9 Dec 1715;[5] d. 23 Dec 1715)[6]
Elizabeth Fellows (twin, b. 9 Dec 1715;[7] d. 15 Dec 1715)[8] Abigall Fellows (b. 27 Nov 1716;[9] m. 21 Feb 1739/40, Benjamin Stevens)[10] Thomas Fellos (b. 24 Jan 1718/9)[11] Ruth (Fellows) Shaw (1723-1798) ;[12] m. 7 May 1746, Edward Shaw)[13] Samuel Fellows (b. 22 Jan 1727/8)[14] Elizabeth (Eastman) Fellows died on 10 Jun 1773, in Salisbury.[15] There is, however, a duplicate record of her death on that date, but in nearby Amesbury.[16]

Thomas Fellows's Last Will and Testament, dated 25 Jul 1755, was presented and accepted for probate by his designated executor (his son, Benjamin) on 9 Apr 1778.[17] He must, therefore, have died before that date, probably in Salisbury.

Research Notes

Note on Place of Birth: There is a duplicate record of this birth, based on private papers, which seems to place it in Shelburne, Franklin County, Massachusetts Bay Colony.[18] Since the Salisbury record seems to depend on official documentation, it is preferred here.
