DEEP CREEK.- At Deep Creek, near Finnis Point, on Wednesday Mr. T. Flavel, a colonist of 78 years, died at the age of 89. He arrived in this State with his parents on December 28, 1838, since when he had been a continuous resident. For half a century he was widely respected in the Gilbert district. Messrs. Albert and F. W. Flavel are sons of the deceased.

Mr. Thomas Flavel. of Deep Creek Farm, near Riverton, whose death is announced was a highly respected colonist. He was one of the first residents of the district, and was born in Northamptonshire, in 1823. He came to South Australia when 5 years of age. He was employed at farm work at the Reedbeds and elsewhere, and whilst in the employ of Mr. White he carted the survey pegs for the Adelaide survey party with one old bullock and a dray. In 1853 he purchased 160 acres of land at Deep Creek, which he had cultivated ever since. As years advanced he enlarged his boundaries, and applied him self to sheep farming with good results. He took an active interest in the Methodist church, and for many years was superintendent of the Deep Creek Sunday School. He was twice married. His first wife, whom he married in 1849. was Maria, daughter of the late Mr. Gasmeir, of Hone Valley. She died in 1884, leaving him with four sous— Messrs.. George Flavel, of Gladstone; H. T. Flavel. Jeparit, Victoria: and Frederick W. and Albert Flavel. of Deep Creek; fcnd two daughters — Mrs. Peter McMartin, of Yarrac. Victoria; and Mrs. David Work, Spalding. There are 37 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Mr. Flavel married a second time, in 1885. the widow of Mr. Vanther. She died in 1906. Of late years his eyesight began to fail. _ The farm was then worked for him by his son. Mr. F. W. Flavel.
