About Thomas Hall

A Patriot of the American Revolution for NORTH CAROLINA with the rank of PRIVATE. DAR Ancestor # A049527

Thomas Hall was born March 1, 1758, married Nancy Hais (Hays) on September 25, 1783, died in 1833. He was a prisoner in South Carolina in 1776, moved from near Chapel Hill, Orange County, North Carolina, in about 1797, settled in Knox County, Tennessee, eleven miles from Knoxiille. He drew a pension as a Revolutionary War soldier some years before his death.

He and his wife (November 23, 1766-1836) were buried in a family graveyard on the old homestead near Knoxville. They had one daughter and ten sons.

The information about the Hall family was provided to Jesse Ransom Grinstead in a letter written by John L. Hall of Sedalia, MO. There is a book about the Hall genealogy in a library in Chicago, IL. This information was compiled by Dr. David Hall.

The family is of English (Scottish) ancestry. Two brothers came to the US in about 1634. One settled in New England; the other in New Jersey. From the former are descended the Halls of New England, NY, and LA. From the latter are descended the Halls of VA and NC.

He is buried in the Thomas Hall Cemetery. He received a land grant of 649 acres in eastern TN for his service in the Revolutionary War. He moved his family from NC to TN in 1797. He was a prisoner of war
