However, this seems a bit unlikely as he was born in 1545 in Lavenham, Suffolk, England. & buried in 26 Nov 1589 in Lavenham, Suffolk, England. (& there being no Lavenham, Mass). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lavenham

Thomas Hammond was born about 1545 the son of John and Agnes Hammond of Lavenham. Although his father had left him a house in Long Melford, he gave it up and settled in Lavenham. He married Rose Trippe on 14 May 1573 at St. Peter and St. Paul in Lavenham. They had at least seven children including William who immigrated to New England with his wife Elizabeth Paine.

Thomas was a shearer by occupation. Lavenham was the center of the great wool trade in England. Unfortunately he died while still a relatively young man. He left a will which identifies his wife and children.

He was died on 24 November 1589. His widow remarried in 1590 to Robert Stuart (Stewart). [1]
