Biography

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Harris-5808

Thomas may have been the illegitimate child of Isaac Harris.[1] He may have been reared by his grandparents, Arthur and Martha Harris in Boston, and then by his Aunt Mary (Harris) and and her husband, John Winchcombe, who lived in Boston's South End.[1] Thomas was included in Aunt Mary's Will, with her other nephews and nieces.[1]

” It would appear that Isaac separated, or perhaps deserted Mercy for a period of time for we read that "Robert Latham and his daughter Mercy, wife of "Isaack Harris", complained to the General Court at Plymouth that Harris "departed the government leaving her with her child; the court took action 5 July 1669."This was early in their marriage, and they must have patched things up, for they went on to have a large family. ...”

Family

He was not the Thomas Harris who married in September, 1688 at Concord, Massachusetts to Mary Shepard.

Seen as husband of Jane Edwards. This wife seems more likely. Confirmation sought.

From Gale Ion Harris:

Apparently nothing beyond his birth has been reported about this John Bacon, but the implication of the distribution of Martha Harris’s estate is that he married one of the daughters of Thomas Harris of Plainfield. John’s parents were residing in Voluntown in the period 1721–1730, spanning the likely time of his marriage. These daughters would have been living in adjoining Plainfield. Their brothers John Harris and Silvanus Harris both married in the Griswold Parish of Preston; Silvanus subsequently lived at Voluntown.

From 124 Gale Ion Harris, Harrises of Connecticut: Scattered Descendants (East Lansing, Mich.: the author, 2012), 270–75, at 273:

No known record shows which of Thomas Harris’s daughters married a Bacon. Daughter Mary is considered most likely based on an estimated birth date (say 1702) near that of John Bacon, and on the name itself. John Bacon’s son James (born about 1735) named his first child Mary, his second child Martha (his wife’s name), and third child Abigail (the name of his wife’s mother), and John’s daughter Elizabeth (Bacon) Graves named her second daughter Polly (after naming a child Sarah, which might have come from her husband’s unknown family).

Plainfield, CT

Thomas and James Dean settled Plainfield in 1699.[1] In 1655, Grandfather Arthur Harris was dealing in Taunton, Massachusetts lands with Walter Dean, who was the father of aforementioned James Dean.[1]

Death and Legacy

Thomas died after 1751 at Plainfield.[1]

Mary Harris was named in her father's will dated on 22 November 1748.
