About Thomas Haskell
He was known as "Thomas of Falmouth." After his first five children were born in Gloucester, Mass., he moved in 1726 to Falmouth, Maine, where 7 more were born. He had a house on the corner of Fore and King Streets, which was at the time on the waterfront. He was on the committee to help lay out the land in 1732. Before he arrived in 1726, the town was completely destroyed by the Indians. King Street is now India Street, and this corner is no longer on the waterfront, as much "fill land" has been brought in, so there are several more blocks of buildings. And Falmouth is no longer "Falmouth," but is now called "Portland," Maine.
