Thomas Hinton, MP, b. 1573/4, 1st s. of Anthony Hinton of Earlscott, Wanborough, Wilts. and Martha, da. of John Warneford of Sevenhampton, Wilts.1 educ. Queen’s, Oxf. 1591, aged 17.2 m. (1) 1595 (with £1,000),3 Catherine (bur. 11 Oct. 1609), da. of William Palmer of Parham, Suss., 6s. (1 d.v.p.) 1da. d.v.p.;4
Hinton’s children developed close ties with Virginia: two sons emigrated there; and his daughter married Samuel Matthews, the colony’s governor in the 1650s; while his eldest son, Anthony, belonged to the Virginia Company and may briefly have been a planter in Barbados.33 A fourth son, John, became physician to Henrietta Maria.34
