About Thomas Jones, Jr.
Thomas Jones was probably born in Va in the middle of the 1740s. He is documented as living in Anderson Co TN (adjacent to Roane on the SW) - he was on the 1802 tax list there. A neighbor was Jabob BUTLER whose daughter Nancy married his son, James M. Jones.
Thomas was old enough to have children who fought in the Revolutionary War. We estimate his birth date as about 1745 based on the birth of a daughter, Savanah, in 1765 who had married in 1782 to a William Griffith in Franklin Co VA. In the late 1700s he lived at the head of Gamble valley - present day Oak Ridge, TN.
It is reported by Snyder E. Roberts in his book, "Genealogical work paper on three prominent Jones families of Anderson and Roane Counties Tenneesee" - held by the McClug Library in Knoxville, that this Thomas is the father of James M. Jones of Roane Co TN. Thomas is thought to be buried in the Peak Cemetery (a Jacob Peak is a the son-in-law of Thomas Jones) in Gamble Valley - there is no surviving stone however. Thomas, in Snyder Roberts book, is reported as serving for VA in the rev. war.
Note that Thomas' son, James M. Jones, named his first son Thomas giving good support to the fact that James M's father was named Thomas.

The following more detailed information about the cemetery is courtesy of Fred Eiler: Peak Cemetery Anderson Co TN
"...Cemetary on private property in wooded area on top of small hill at corner of Wilberforce and Fisk Aves....I mentioned the location to some xxx at ... mentioned it was on her family's farm which had been taken to build Oak Ridge during WW II. She explained where her home had been located and mentioned the family cemetery. She said family history dating from her ancestor Jacob Peak's purchase of the property in the early 1800's held that a Revolutionary War soldier was buried there. xxxx who taught history at the same school, confirmed the story. ..... around to visiting the Peak Family Cemetery this week. The Oak Ridge city directory gave directions and stated that it was on private property, so I knocked at the closest house, and spoke to a kind lady whose late father bought the property when it was sold by the federal govt. in the mid 1955s. She gave me directions and permission to visit. What a shock! The cemetery sits on a wooded hill on about an acre of land, on a corner between two private homes. The remains of a barbed-wire fence, probably dating from 1942, can be seen, but there is no enclosure. Two headstones mark the graves I added to your information for the cemetery. Another small stone looked to be marked with the initials" N.R.L.P." Several more graves seemed to be indicated by fieldstones, but no indication of a Revolutionary War veteran.
